Welcome, friend, to the Howling Wolf Inn.
What is the Howling Wolf Inn, you ask? Well, the title itself should answer your question. It's a role playing forum.
What?! What is a role playing forum, you ask?
It is, of course, a forum for role playing.
WHAT?! What is role playing?
Role playing is a game alot of people enjoy playing. It's very simple. Alot like the games you played when you were a little kid, where you pretend to be someone else, except that role playing games are for an older audiance, generally more mature, and they also have a few simple rules to decide who hits who, rather than having to go through the pain of finding out by really doing it.
Now how do we do this on a forum, you no doubt wonder.
Well, that, too, is quite simple. We write it.
Not only are we having fun in a game, but at the same time we are creating an enormous fantasy story!
And of course, you are not expected to be yourself. You can be a dwarf. An elf. Anything you can imagine. (See the Races thread).
You can even be a crazy elf. Or an evil dark elf. Whatever you want. We won't judge you by what your characters do! One of your characters can hate another character, but you can be good friends in real life, or OOC.
What's OOC? Out Of Character. It is text you write when you are not speaking as your character. Generally, unless it is in a forum just for OOC text, you will write it inside (( )) so as to show that it is ooc.
Where do you go next? Simple.
First, read the Forum Rules.
Then the Game Rules.
Then Races.
Then go to the Introductions thread and introduce yourself.
Then go to the Characters thread and create your character.
Sounds like alot? Don't fret. It'll only take 10 or 15 minutes. I promise. And I also promise you'll be glad you did it once you did!
Also, it's optional, but you can read a bit about the world in the World thread (coming soon), though you may want to do this after you've played a while.
Now, you ask me what we'll be doing here.
Well, you may talk with other characters in the common room. Each week a new quest will begin, created by me or another staff member. You can join in on these.
And lastly, you can go into the wilderness and adventure. Simply post in one of the wilderness forums where you go, what you do there, and what you are looking for, and a staff member will respond with what happens.
Sure, it's not faced paced like an MMO, nor is this game flashy. It's alot like a PnP RPG (Pen and Paper), in the vein of Dungeons and Dragons or Warhammer Fantasy Role Play, but it can still be alot of fun. Plus, all you need to do is devote a few minutes a day to play, so it's a well suited game for people with a tight schedule!
